I was able to take a moment this week to stop all that I am doing–and read.  Comic Books, yes–I read about 10 in an evening.  I was away from home leading a retreat for single soldiers.

I find it important to get away once and awhile–away from the craziness of life and stop.  To slip into a world of Superheroes where good always prevails and anything can happen.  It is why I love comic books.

Comic books shouldn’t be an obligation–it should be fun.  But we sometimes have to force ourselves away from all that is going on around us and stop.

    And read.

    And rest.

    And dream.

The final issue of the U.S. 1 series was well worth the journey.  Having never read the end of this story–I was excited to have a part in reading it.

All of the twists and turns throughout this series finally concludes as U.S. and most of the gang load up in the Short Stop and fly out to the stars–except U.S. and Retread, they’re in the truck.  It is interesting that Taryn didn’t go–I guess they were trying to open the door to follow-on series that never made it.

The final quote gives a look at the flavor of the comic book–kinda cheesy, but fun at the same time.

And Remember: Even in Space There’s A Need for Truckers..and a Good Cup of Java!

Inching ever closer to the finale of this series, U.S. 1 #11 explains the Aliens and the swapping of U.S. and his brother.  If they are aliens–aliens are supposed to be smart aren’t they?–Why did it take so long for them to figure out that they got the wrong guy?  But, they did and U.S. 1 #11 tells you the whole story.

The most comical part of this story was the aliens solution  to deal with the Nazi’s that were aboard Blimp’s Blimp.  The aliens put the Nazi’s in downtown Tel Aviv.  Dude?  I was shocked!  Is that politically incorrect or what?

I thought it was funny first because, I would never think to have them go there.  I mean–I could think of many other places to put them–but Tel Aviv?  That is at least creative. And second, of the carefulness we have become in the last 25 years.  This would not be used at al–somebody would get offended.  It is kinda funny, actually.
