Comic Book Day backcbd

Comic Book Retreat

July 23rd, 2008 · 5 Comments

Obviously, I have gotten a little behind in my writing on comicbookday.com.  I’ve been spending much of my time on chaplainandrews.comto communicate to families and friends while I am here in Iraq. But, I am longing for just a couple of days of rest, where I can read more than one comic book at a time.  I have some wonderful books here to delve into.

I would love to spend several days just reading comic books and resting. And, of course, writing my thoughts of comic books.

I saw an ad for a writing competition on AbsorbingWriting.com that reminded me of my plan to take a personal writing retreat when I return to Germany.  During this retreat, I plan on spending a weekend–or a couple of days–alone in a small hotel in Germany.  I look forward to simply reading comic books and writing about them. I plan on taking several different series of comic books to catch up on current storylines from Superman, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Trinity. As far as writing, I will take my computer, loaded with the Q10 writing software, that I have become more and more fond of.  And bring my Bible and my personal journal for reflection as well.

I think it would be a wonderful backdrop to spend some time just browsing through some great comic books, and then write.  I think it is critical for me to take the time to get away.  Even though, I will be away from my family an additional two or three days, the purpose is to simply GET AWAY.  I look at it as an opportunity to refresh my mind and take care of myself, so that I may spend quality time with my family.  It will give me the time to decompress, so I can give the best to those that have sacrificed a year away from me.  Comic Books are an outlet for me.  Writing is an outlet for me.  What a wonderful respite I will have when I step away from everything, and read and write for just a single weekend.  Who knows, it may become a habit.
