High Adventure Trucking Down the Highway

In 1983, I came across the U.S. 1 comic book at a local Fast Fare gas and grocery store.  For the next several months, I went back and picked up the next issues until I could not get them any more.  Maybe I missed them, maybe they were delayed, or maybe I just could get back to that store on the corner.

The comic book featured a truck driver, who had a CB radio in his head and his truck was computerized much like the Knight Rider 2000.  The driver was being pursued by the Highwayman.  The story captured my attention and I was pulled in to this fascinating story.

I held on to these comic books for twenty years thinking that one day I would finished buying the rest of the series.  One summer, however, I was cleaning out the storage in my house, and the comic books went with the storage out to the dump.  It was time to let them go, I thought. (Incidentally, I also through away all of my Army uniforms–because I never thought I would use the again either–it was a sad time.)

Two years later, I began to read comic books as a way to keep myself busy.  When my collection began to grow and I realized that I was collecting, my heart sank as I remembered my original collection of 8 comic books (the 7 from U.S. 1 comic book and 1 Spider-man comic book).

Recently, through the wonders of the Internet, I was able to buy the entire collection from Mile High Comics.

I wasn’t disappointed when I actually found time to read this comic book after all these years.  The story captured my attention as it did before.  I feel, even without the nostalgia, that this first issue was a well written introduction to this high speed 18-wheeler and the guy with the metal head.  Would it work today?  Probably not, but it is a fun story just for the fun.  It is trully  “High Adventure Trucking Down the Highway.”
