Top Five Comic Book Artists

October 14th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Having paid attention to comics for the last two years or so, I believe that I am gaining an eye for what artists I like.  I gathered a group of artists that I think are the best out there.  I have come to enjoy clean lines, as well as distinctive features on the characters.  Two names that are intentionally not on my list are Micheal Turner and Alex Ross.  I think they are good technical artists–but with both of them, I honestly get frustrated when all of their characters look exactly the same.

So, these are my picks and thanks to Comic Vine for the great resource to view their work.

1. George Perez: Experienced and consistent.

2. Tim Sale: Retro in a new-way

3. Ed McGuinness: Very Clean

4. David Lopez: Makes Cat Woman believable. (Thanks to peterdavid.net for giving me a picture!)

5. Jim Lee: The New Standard in Comic Art

I have to compliment Dan Jurgens on the new series of Booster Gold. Prominent lines and bold colours.

I haven’t seen the new Booster Gold–but I’ll remember to keep an eye on Dan Jurgens. That’s good to see.
